URGENT UPDATE: Thousands of Irish passports issued between December 23, 2025, and January 6, 2026, are now under recall due to a critical software error. The Irish Passport Service has confirmed that these passports do not meet international travel standards, posing potential issues for holders at eGates and Border Control.
This recall affects numerous travelers, raising significant concerns for those planning trips in the near future. Affected citizens are urgently advised to check the Date of Issue on their passports, which can be found on the data page. If your passport falls within the specified dates, you must return it immediately to the following address:

“The Passport Service has contacted affected customers by email to inform them of the issue and will be reissuing passports to them in the coming days and weeks.”
Travelers do not need to reapply for a new passport; however, they are encouraged to return their passport book and any passport card immediately. The Passport Service is committed to issuing new passports within a maximum of 10 working days for those who comply with the recall.
