Urgent Safety Alert: HGV Traffic Poses Risk in Kilkenny Area
URGENT UPDATE: Families in the Butts area of Kilkenny City are facing immediate safety risks due to heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic. Local councillors, including Cllr Eugene McGuinness, have voiced grave concerns during recent meetings about the increasing danger presented by HGVs using the area as a shortcut.
“There is a serious safety issue up there. People are turning right at the Tullaroan Road and using it as a rat run,” Cllr McGuinness stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation. He added, “Families are going out to stop traffic. That in itself is going to cause a problem and we need to do something as quickly as possible.”
The councillor emphasized the alarming speed of vehicles in the area, saying, “I’ve seen it for myself and they (vehicles) are flying up the Butts. It’s dangerous and it has to be sorted.” This warning comes as local authorities prepare to implement a right turn prohibition imminently to alleviate the risk faced by residents.
Residents have expressed deep concern for the safety of their families, with many taking to the streets to manage traffic themselves. The councillor’s comments reflect a growing sense of urgency among locals who are demanding immediate action to prevent potential accidents.
Officials are set to move quickly in addressing these serious safety concerns, with the community closely monitoring developments. Local leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant as the council works towards implementing the new traffic measures.
For those living in and around Kilkenny City, this is a critical moment that highlights the pressing need for effective solutions to ensure the safety of families in the Butts area. The proposed changes aim to create a safer environment for pedestrians and residents alike.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation as authorities confirm the timeline for the right turn prohibition. Residents are encouraged to share this information to raise awareness and foster community safety.
