UPDATE: Met Eireann has just issued a Status Yellow weather warning for five counties in Ireland as hazardous conditions grip the nation. Waking up to icy and foggy weather, residents in Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow are urged to remain vigilant as freezing fog creates dangerous travel conditions.

The warning went into effect at 6:17 AM today and will remain active until 10 AM. Met Eireann warns that “areas of dense fog and freezing fog” can lead to severely impaired visibility, posing risks for drivers and pedestrians alike.

This alert follows a separate weather warning set to impact seven counties tomorrow. On Friday, Met Eireann announced a Status Yellow wind warning for Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, valid from 4 PM to 10 PM on Sunday. The forecast indicates strong and gusty southwest winds, which could lead to dangerous conditions, including wave overtopping and fallen trees.

As of this morning, the forecast indicates a chilly start with frost, ice, and fog blanketing parts of the north midlands and east. However, the day will begin dry with some sunny spells before scattered showers—some heavy and wintry—move in from the north.

Temperatures are expected to range from 4°C to 9°C, with the coldest conditions in the northeast. Winds will be light but will shift to become more noticeable later in the day. Tonight, the weather is projected to turn increasingly windy with southerly winds expected to strengthen, leading to temperatures between 2°C and 5°C in the north and east, while milder conditions will prevail elsewhere.

Tomorrow promises a cloudy day with persistent rain and drizzle, particularly in the afternoon. Residents should prepare for possible heavy rain as southern fronts push through, with a clearance expected by evening. Windy conditions will return, with gusts reaching near gale force in Atlantic coastal areas.

The implications of these weather warnings are significant for travel, outdoor plans, and safety across the affected regions. If you’re in these counties, stay alert and prioritize safety as weather conditions evolve.
