Urgent Update: GAA Legend Mick McBrearty Passes Away in UK
BREAKING: The community mourns the loss of GAA stalwart and Donegal native Mick McBrearty, who passed away in Coventry, England, just days ago. His impact on the Four Masters GAA Club and the broader Irish community is profound and immediate.
Originally from Dunkineely, McBrearty was a former player and chairman of the Four Masters GAA Club, which was established in 1955 by fellow Donegal natives PJ Burke and Patsy Meehan. McBrearty joined the club in the 1960s and left an indelible mark, playing multiple positions with his trademark commitment and tenacity.
“Mick’s passion for Four Masters was unwavering,” said a club spokesperson. “He represented the club with great distinction.” His contributions extended beyond the field, as he was pivotal in recruiting players, including Danny Doherty from Urris, and played a crucial role in acquiring the Four Masters social club in Earlsdon during the late 1970s. He served as chairman in 1976 and 1977.
“Everyone at Four Masters would like to extend our sincere condolences to the McBrearty family at this very sad time,” the spokesperson added.
Mick McBrearty’s legacy lives on through his family, with sons Paul and Chris both having played for the club, and his grandson, Matthew, currently part of the team, proudly continuing the family tradition.
