Urgent Yellow Snow and Ice Warning for Northern Ireland Issued
UPDATE: The UK Met Office has just issued a Yellow Snow and Ice Warning for all six counties in Northern Ireland, effective from 5 PM today until 11 AM tomorrow. This urgent alert signals the potential for icy roads and hill snow, creating hazardous conditions for commuters and residents alike.
Authorities warn that icy patches are likely to develop rapidly, especially this evening and overnight into Saturday morning. The Met Office stated, “Icy patches and some hill snow are expected Friday night and on Saturday morning,” highlighting the immediate risk to public safety.
In addition, Donegal County Council has cautioned that particularly cold temperatures will prevail this evening, with freezing rain forecast for some areas. This could exacerbate already slippery conditions and pose additional challenges for travel.
Adding to the weather woes, just an hour prior, Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, forecasting high winds on Sunday between 4 PM and 10 PM. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as these conditions could lead to further disruptions.
This developing situation is critical for those in the affected areas, especially as holiday travel ramps up. Authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during the warning periods and to stay updated through official channels.
As this weather system unfolds, keep an eye on local updates, and prepare for potential impacts. The combination of snow, ice, and high winds underscores the need for caution in the coming days.
Stay safe and informed as we monitor these conditions closely.
