Young Filmmakers in Donegal Get Smartphone Training Boost NOW

URGENT UPDATE: Innovative smartphone filmmaking training is set to empower young people in Donegal, Ireland. Póca Productions, in collaboration with Donegal County Council and the PEACEPLUS Partnership, has launched the transformative New Horizons Countywide Programme. This initiative aims to engage up to 300 young people aged 16 to 24 over the next two years, offering them the chance to produce their own films using accessible smartphone technology.
The New Horizons Programme is part of a broader initiative supported by €7.6 million in funding allocated for peacebuilding projects under the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). This funding is instrumental in delivering creative opportunities to youth across all Municipal Districts in Donegal and even cross-border areas.
Participants will dive into the world of filmmaking, learning industry-standard techniques while utilizing the technology available on their smartphones. Over the span of the programme, attendees will collaborate in small production teams to script, shoot, and edit 2-minute films that illustrate stories of their choosing. This hands-on experience not only fosters creativity but also enhances technical skills that are increasingly relevant in today’s digital landscape.
The films produced will be showcased at two dedicated film festivals in May 2026 and May 2027, where young filmmakers will gather to screen their work publicly and share insights from their filmmaking journey. This platform provides a unique opportunity for personal growth and community engagement.
If you are interested in participating or want to get involved, reach out to [email protected] for more information. This programme represents a significant step forward in equipping young people in Donegal with the skills they need to tell their stories and express their creativity.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting initiative that promises to inspire the next generation of filmmakers!
