Cork Airport is preparing for a busy festive season, anticipating approximately 164,000 passengers from now until Christmas. In particular, the airport expects around 58,000 travelers to pass through between today and Christmas Eve. This year’s passenger numbers represent a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting the airport’s growing popularity during the holiday season.

The peak travel day for arrivals is projected to be Sunday, December 21, while Sunday, December 28 is expected to see the highest volume of departures. As passengers arrive over the coming days, they can enjoy a festive atmosphere at Cork Airport, featuring Christmas choirs and musicians performing on the Arrivals stage until December 23.

As part of its “Corkmas” campaign, Cork City Council will distribute prizes and gift cards to select arriving passengers, which can be utilized in the city and surrounding areas during the holiday period and beyond.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the festive atmosphere, stating, “There is nothing like an airport at Christmas and airport welcomes go, nothing like a Cork Airport welcome. We’ve seen them home and will see more home over the next week. Then we’ll see the waves and farewells from Saint Stephen’s Day through New Year’s Day.”

In a whimsical note, Cork Airport has confirmed that Santa Claus’ flight plan has been filed and he is expected to arrive on schedule on Christmas Eve, potentially even earlier, should weather conditions be favorable. The airspace in the Cork and wider Munster region will be cleared during this time, allowing Santa to deliver presents efficiently to children throughout the area.

Travelers planning to fly during this busy period are advised to arrive at Cork Airport at least 90 minutes before their flight departs. This timeframe is particularly important for those checking in luggage. Passengers can find helpful tips on preparing for security screening by visiting the airport’s website, corkairport.com.

Gift-givers should note that wrapped presents may need to be unwrapped for security inspections, and Christmas crackers are not permitted onboard flights. For real-time updates on arrivals and departures, passengers are encouraged to check corkairport.com or utilize the WhatsApp flight information feature available on the airport’s website.

As Cork Airport gears up for a bustling Christmas season, the combination of increased passenger numbers and festive activities promises a warm welcome for all travelers.
