Lil Nas X Pleads Not Guilty to Assault Charges in LA Incident

Lil Nas X, the Grammy-winning musician known for his hit song “Old Town Road,” pleaded not guilty on March 5, 2025, to four felony charges stemming from an incident in Los Angeles. The police report indicates that officers encountered the artist while he was wandering the streets in his underwear.
The charges include three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. The Los Angeles judge set bail at $75,000 (€64,538) and mandated that Lil Nas X attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings, as authorities suspect he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the encounter.
In a statement following the arraignment, Lil Nas X’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, firmly denied any allegations of drug use. O’Connor characterized the incident as an aberration in the musician’s life, emphasizing that he was not taking illegal substances when approached by the police.
The incident has drawn considerable media attention, not only due to the nature of the charges but also because of Lil Nas X’s prominence in the music industry. He made history as the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association Award for his work on “Old Town Road,” a song that also earned him two Grammy Awards.
As the legal proceedings continue, the implications of this incident could affect both Lil Nas X’s career and personal life. Observers are keenly watching how this case unfolds, particularly given the artist’s significant influence and fan base.
The next steps in this case will be closely monitored as Lil Nas X navigates the legal system while maintaining his career in the spotlight. The outcome of the charges may have lasting effects on his public image and future endeavors within the music industry.
