Newtowncunningham Community Mourns Beloved Bridie Kernan, 12 PM Funeral

UPDATE: The Newtowncunningham community is in mourning following the passing of beloved local figure Bridie Kernan, who died on August 17, 2023. Her funeral will take place today, August 19, at 12 PM at All Saints Church, Newtowncunningham.
Bridie Kernan, known for her warmth and dedication, was an integral part of the Kernan retail group alongside her husband, Seamus Kernan. As the postmistress at Kernans Post Office, she served as a key local figure for decades, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Following the transition of her son, Anthony Kernan, to Postmaster in 1999, Bridie remained a familiar and cherished presence in the store, connecting with generations of residents. A tribute from the Kernan family emphasized, “She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.”
In respect for her memory, the Kernans store will close today from 12 PM to 1 PM during the funeral service. Bridie is survived by her loving husband, Seamus, and her children: Adrienne, Anthony (Breid), Barry (Rosaleen), Mark (Annette), and Maria (Vincent). Her grandchildren—including Lucca, Francesca, Laura, and James—and great-grandchild Daniela will fondly remember her legacy.
Bridie’s remains will repose at the family home before being taken to All Saints Church for a Requiem Mass at 12 PM. The service can be viewed online at www.churchservices.tv/newtowncunningham.
This heartfelt gathering not only honors Bridie’s legacy but also reinforces the tight-knit spirit of the Newtowncunningham community. As friends and neighbors come together today, her memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of many.
