Man Charged with Double Attempted Murder After Armagh Bar Attack

URGENT UPDATE: A 38-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a horrifying incident at the Toby Jug Bar in Armagh last night. The attack involved a petrol bomb being hurled into the bar, resulting in chaos and injury among patrons.
At approximately 8:55 PM, reports of the fire prompted immediate responses from PSNI and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who swiftly extinguished the flames. Eyewitness videos circulating online depict chilling scenes of patrons, including children, fleeing the establishment as smoke engulfed the area.
During the terrifying ordeal, two men—one in his 30s and another in his 60s—sustained injuries and required hospital treatment. Fortunately, one has since been discharged. The attacker has now been charged with several serious offenses, including arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a blade in a public place. He is set to appear before Newry Magistrates Court tomorrow.
In a poignant statement on social media, the Toby Jug expressed their shock and sadness over the attack, emphasizing their commitment to community safety. They confirmed the bar will remain closed as they assess the damage and ensure a safe environment for patrons and staff. The statement read, “The Toby Jug has always been, and will continue to be, a place for friends, neighbours, and the wider community to come together. We are working closely with the authorities to ensure the safety of everyone moving forward.”
This shocking incident raises urgent questions about public safety in the area, and authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the attack. Local residents and patrons are urged to remain vigilant as police work to ensure the community’s safety.
