Minimum Wage Soars for Security and Construction Workers NOW

URGENT UPDATE: Minimum wage rates are set to dramatically increase for workers in the construction and security sectors, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of employees. The new rates, confirmed to take effect immediately, are part of a significant push to enhance worker welfare across these vital industries.
Starting July 22, 2025, security workers aged 18 and over will earn a minimum wage of €15.41 per hour, up from the previous rate of €14.50. This increase marks a crucial step in ensuring fair compensation for those safeguarding public spaces.
In the construction sector, workers will see a 3.4% wage increase from August 1, 2025, along with improved pension contributions and sick pay benefits. These enhancements come as part of the Sectoral Employment Order (Construction Sector) 2024, which aims to set fair pay and conditions for workers in the industry.
Why This Matters NOW: With the rising cost of living, these wage increases are essential for supporting workers and their families. The adjustments not only uplift earnings but also provide better security for employees in both sectors, reinforcing the government’s commitment to worker rights.
The Sectoral Employment Order (SEO) allows for legally binding wage agreements, ensuring that all employers within the construction sector comply with these updates. Similar measures are in place for the security sector through the recently established Employment Regulation Order (ERO). Employers who fail to meet these new wage standards risk being reported to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).
These changes are a direct response to the growing calls for better pay and conditions in labor sectors that are crucial for the economy. The Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment has defended the swift implementation of these orders as a necessary move to support workers in the face of economic challenges.
Next Steps: Workers and employers alike should stay informed about these changes and ensure compliance with the new regulations. The Labour Court plays a pivotal role in reviewing pay and conditions, and any future adjustments will be closely monitored.
As the construction and security sectors adjust to these favorable changes, the focus will remain on ensuring that workers receive the benefits they rightfully deserve. This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as they emerge.
