UPDATE: The annual Kilkenny City and County Anglers competition took place this weekend on the scenic River Nore, bringing together young anglers for a day of thrilling fishing and valuable learning experiences. The event featured a prize-giving ceremony, delicious food, and engaging activities, highlighting the importance of biodiversity in local waterways.

Participants were treated to demonstrations from the Inland Fisheries Board, who educated attendees on sustainable fishing practices and the ecological significance of the river. This event fostered community spirit and encouraged participation among young anglers, ensuring a memorable day for all involved.

In a related development, an exciting opportunity for women interested in flyfishing is set to take place at the Laois Angling Centre near Portlaoise on August 30. Organized by the Irish Ladies Flyfishing Association (ILFA), the event will kick off at 11:00 AM with a short indoor session followed by four hours of practical casting instruction outside.

This course is designed for beginners and novice anglers aged over 18, with all necessary equipment provided. No prior experience is required, but participants must book in advance. Interested individuals can secure their spot by contacting PRO Maddy Kelly at [email protected].

Women from across Ireland are expected to attend, and detailed joining instructions will be sent to those who register. Leading the instruction will be Dan O’Neill from Kilkenny, a qualified fly-casting instructor, alongside Maddy Kelly, the current President of the International Ladies Flyfishing Association, representing Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales.
