Kilkenny GAA Mourns Loss of Beloved Former President Dick Bolger

UPDATE: The Rower Inistioge GAA Club and its supporters are in mourning following the passing of Dick Bolger, a cherished figure in the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) community. Mr. Bolger, who was born in 1929, played a pivotal role in the club’s history and legacy.
Just announced, Bolger was a founding member of The Rower Inistioge Club in 1955, where he made his mark as a right half back in the club’s inaugural competitive adult match. His exceptional skills led to a remarkable achievement in 1956 when he earned an All Ireland Junior medal with Kilkenny, scoring the decisive goal in the final against London, making him the first member from Rower Inistioge to win an All Ireland medal.
Bolger’s contributions didn’t stop there. He served as a selector for the club when they clinched the senior championship in 1968, and again in 1969, he was part of the Kilkenny selection team that triumphed under captain Eddie Keher. His dedication continued through the 1970s and 1980s, where he remained an influential selector for both the club and Kilkenny.
A club spokesperson expressed the profound impact of Bolger’s life, stating, “Dick was a passionate supporter of both The Rower Inistioge Club and Kilkenny. He witnessed his club and county achieve numerous titles, always present at games and training sessions.” His commitment to the club extended beyond his playing days, as he was a guiding voice in Executive meetings through the years.
Bolger’s love for Gaelic games was a legacy he passed down to his family, who proudly represented the club across various hurling, football, and camogie teams. The club emphasized the deep sense of loss felt by all, adding, “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis,” a traditional Irish blessing for the deceased.
As the community grapples with this loss, members are encouraged to share their memories and celebrate the life of a true GAA man. The Rower Inistioge Club has opened up channels for tributes and condolences, reinforcing the emotional bond within the GAA family.
Stay tuned for further updates on memorials and tributes honoring Dick Bolger, a beloved figure whose legacy will undoubtedly endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
