Liam and Noel Gallagher’s Childhood Cottage in Mayo Hits Market

A cottage once owned by the maternal grandmother of Liam and Noel Gallagher has been listed for sale in Co Mayo, Ireland. The property is a recently renovated two-bedroom cottage located in Sonnagh, Charlestown, where the brothers’ mother, Peggy Gallagher, and their grandmother, Margret Sweeney, both have roots. This home holds sentimental value for the Gallagher family, who frequently visited during their childhood summers after traveling from Manchester.
During a recent concert at Croke Park, Liam Gallagher expressed his connection to the region, asking the audience, “Anyone here from Mayo, Charlestown?” The crowd’s enthusiastic response prompted him to humorously remark, “There’s only about five people there, you can’t all be f*****g from there.” He dedicated the song “Roll With It” to the town, further emphasizing the importance of their heritage. Later, Liam paid tribute to his mother by dedicating “Stand By Me” to her during the same performance.
Margret Sweeney passed away in September 2000, just weeks shy of her 80th birthday. The cottage, set on six acres of land, features a natural spring, the ruins of an old corn mill, and a stream running through the property. The internal living space spans approximately 83.6 square meters (900 square feet), comprising an entrance hall, a spacious open-plan kitchen, a living and dining area, two double bedrooms, and two shower rooms.
Conveniently located just 10 kilometers from Knock Airport, the property is now on the market for €350,000. The sale is being managed by DNG Country Homes & Estates in Ranelagh, Dublin, alongside DNG Cyril Burke in Castlebar. The property listing notes that the Gallagher family enjoyed many summers in this cottage, embracing the countryside’s charm and the local musical traditions of Charlestown.
Following their recent sold-out performances in Dublin, residents of Charlestown have expressed hopes that the Gallagher brothers might visit the town. Many fans have also traveled to Co Mayo in hopes of catching a glimpse of their idols. Despite the buzz surrounding their concerts, there have been no confirmed sightings of Liam and Noel in the area in the days following the shows.
As the Gallagher brothers prepare for their next concert in Toronto this weekend, the sale of their grandmother’s cottage adds another chapter to their enduring connection with their Irish roots.
