New Survey Reveals Top Signs of Bravery in Daily Life

UPDATE: A new survey conducted by Irn-Bru has unveiled striking insights into modern-day bravery, highlighting actions that range from confronting your boss to asking someone out in person. The research, which surveyed 2,000 adults in the United Kingdom, reveals that 75 percent of participants yearn to be braver in their daily lives.
The findings indicate that behaviors such as cold-water swimming and expressing genuine feelings are seen as indicators of courage. Notably, 29 percent of respondents believe that participating in cold-water swimming demonstrates a heroic spirit, while 15 percent feel that wearing revealing swimwear without shame reflects an adventurous mindset.
Kenny Nicholson, a spokesperson for Irn-Bru, emphasized the importance of unlocking one’s inner courage. “Having the girders to go make something happen, or just be yourself, is something we should all be able to tap into,” he stated. The survey coincides with the brand’s revival of its iconic “Made in Scotland from Girders” slogan, which encourages people to embrace their individuality.
The survey further reveals that a staggering 50 percent of those with a bucket list fear they will never complete it, while only 25 percent believe they will muster the courage to achieve their personal goals in their lifetime.
Everyday actions that many consider brave include making phone calls instead of sending texts (11 percent) and asking strangers for directions (10 percent). Moreover, 45 percent of participants admitted they would not dare tackle a stand-up comedy set, while 44 percent would decline an opportunity to appear on reality television.
The survey also highlighted a surprising cultural aspect: 10 percent of respondents consider admitting a dislike for popular artist Taylor Swift to be an act of bravery, fearing backlash from fans. Additionally, nearly half (49 percent) expressed a desire to wear bold, unconventional clothing but lack the confidence to do so.
Reflecting on these findings, Nicholson added, “Facing your fears or taking on a new challenge can have a truly profound effect on your life and how you choose to live it.” This resonates with the sentiment that, “If there’s no guts, there’s no glory.”
As people seek to embrace their inner courage, Irn-Bru encourages everyone to explore their own definitions of bravery. The top signs of having ‘Girders’ include:
1. Standing up to your boss when they’re in the wrong
2. Telling someone how you really feel about them
3. Asking your boss for a pay rise
4. Cold water swimming in the UK
