UFU Urgently Meets DfI Officials Over A5 Project Delays

UPDATE: The Ulster Farmers Union (UFU) is urgently meeting with officials from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to address significant delays in the A5 project. The meeting comes after Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins was unable to attend due to schedule conflicts, prompting her to direct officials to engage with the UFU immediately.
This high-stakes discussion follows a July 4, 2025 meeting in which the High Court ruled that the DfI’s plans for the A5 did not comply with essential climate change targets. John McLenaghan, UFU deputy president, expressed concerns that timelines for updating landowners have not been honored, leaving many stakeholders uncertain about their future.
“We welcome this opportunity to seek clarity from the DfI for landowners who remain in the dark,” McLenaghan stated. “While the Department is appealing the High Court ruling, it must also fulfill its immediate obligations by appropriately engaging with landowners and providing critical information.”
The urgency of this meeting cannot be overstated, as the A5 project is vital not only for local farmers but for broader regional development. The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the project’s timeline raises concerns among landowners and the agricultural community, who are eager for updates and resolutions.
No specific date has been set for the meeting, but the UFU is pushing for prompt action. As developments unfold, stakeholders are urged to stay informed and ready for any announcements that may impact their livelihoods.
This meeting represents a crucial step in addressing the pressing issues surrounding the A5 project, and the UFU’s proactive approach highlights the importance of transparency and communication in infrastructure development.
As the situation develops, all eyes will be on the DfI’s response and the outcomes of this critical engagement with the UFU.
