Tributes Flow for Stephen Mooney Following Fatal Offaly Crash

A tragic road traffic collision in Offaly claimed the life of Stephen Mooney, a man in his 40s, on August 27, 2023. The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. near the Edenderry area, involving a crane and two vans. Mooney was driving one of the vans and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the news of his passing, heartfelt tributes have poured in from friends, family, and former colleagues. A post on RIP.ie expresses the profound loss felt by his loved ones, highlighting his loving family, including parents Annie and William, and partner Theresa, as well as siblings and stepsons. The message reads, “Deeply regretted and sadly missed.”
Many who knew Mooney shared their condolences, reflecting on his character. One mourner stated, “He was a true gent and always had a smile. May he rest in peace.” Another remembered their time together, remarking, “We could write a book on our days with Stevo in the pig factory Edenderry. A funny hard worker who would take the skin off his back to help anyone.”
Another tribute noted, “Stephen was a lovely man and a good friend to many. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.” The collective sentiments paint a picture of a beloved individual whose kindness and generosity resonated deeply within his community.

Investigation Underway
In light of the collision, An Garda Síochána has initiated an investigation and is appealing for witnesses. Authorities are particularly interested in any camera footage from road users who were in the area between 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on the morning of the crash. A spokesperson for the Garda stated, “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
