Former Limerick Association Chairman Con Dee Passes Away at 84
BREAKING: Con Dee, the long-time chairman of the Limerick Association in London, has passed away at the age of 84. The news is generating an outpouring of tributes as the expatriate community mourns the loss of a dedicated leader and supporter.
Dee, a native of Murroe in County Limerick, was a prominent figure in the Irish community in London for decades. He moved to London in 1962 with his late wife, Monica, seeking better opportunities during a challenging time in 1960s Ireland. From the moment he arrived, he became actively involved in the Irish community, leading the London St. Patrick’s Day parade and proudly carrying the Irish tricolour in his military uniform.
His military service included time in Limerick, at the Curragh, and with the Coastal Defence Military Corps in Spike Island, County Cork. Dee was also deeply passionate about the GAA, dedicating time each year to clean the grave of Sean Og Hanley, a member of Limerick’s first All-Ireland hurling championship team.
Dee’s family has expressed gratitude for the condolences received from the Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen and London GAA. His eldest daughter, Nodlaig, passed away recently, and he is survived by daughters Carol, Mary, Sandra, and son Paul.
In his home in Balham, the aroma of traditional Irish fry-ups often filled the air on Sunday mornings, showcasing his commitment to preserving Irish culture and heritage.
His funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2023, at 11 AM at the Holy Ghost Church, located at SW12 8QJ in Balham, London. This service will be an opportunity for the community to come together and honor the legacy of a beloved figure.
As the community reflects on his contributions, Con Dee’s impact on the Irish diaspora in London will not be forgotten. He dedicated his life to fostering connections among expatriates, ensuring that the Irish spirit thrived far from home. May he rest in peace.
