Met Éireann Unveils NEW Storm Names for 2025/2026 Season NOW!

URGENT UPDATE: Met Éireann has just announced the list of storm names for the upcoming 2025/2026 autumn and winter season, unveiling a selection that reflects the diverse cultures of Ireland, the UK, and the Netherlands. This exciting announcement comes as 4,000 public suggestions were submitted during a recent social media campaign, marking a significant moment in the 10-year history of the storm naming initiative.
The official list includes names such as Amy, Bram, Chandra, and Eddie, with each name chosen for its personal significance to the public. Eoin Sherlock, Head of the Forecasting Division at Met Éireann, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response. “Many suggestions honor our culture and history, reflecting personal stories that resonate with the community,” he stated.
The first named storm last season was Ashley, while the most impactful was Storm Éowyn, which caused substantial damage across Ireland in January. This underscores the importance of naming storms, as it enhances public awareness and safety during severe weather events. Sherlock highlighted that the website, met.ie, experienced over three million visits during Storm Éowyn, illustrating how naming can drive critical information to the public.
Met Éireann emphasizes that storm naming is not just a fun exercise but a vital tool for effective communication. “Naming storms allows us to issue consistent warnings, helping people to prepare for potentially dangerous weather,” Sherlock explained. The organization urged the public to “Be Winter Ready” as the storm season approaches.
Storm names are assigned when potential impacts are anticipated to be of medium or high severity in Ireland, the UK, or the Netherlands. This systematic approach not only aids in public safety but also helps in issuing relevant color-coded weather warnings for wind, rain, or snow.
As we await the upcoming storm season, residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared. Met Éireann continues to prioritize safety, ensuring that crucial weather updates reach everyone, especially during severe weather events.
For those interested, here is the complete list of storm names for 2025/2026: Amy, Bram, Chandra, Dave, Eddie, Fionnuala, Gerard, Hannah, Isla, Janna, Kasia, Lilith, Marty, Nico, Oscar, Patrick, Ruby, Stevie, Tadhg, Violet, and Wubbo.
This announcement serves as a reminder for all to stay vigilant as winter approaches. Share this news to keep your friends and family informed about the potential storms on the horizon!
