Meg Mac Set to Dazzle Dublin and London with Upcoming Shows

Australian singer-songwriter Meg Mac is poised to captivate audiences with her first-ever headline show in Dublin, alongside two additional performances in London this week. While she may not yet be a household name in the UK and Ireland, Meg Mac has established herself as one of Australia’s premier musical talents.
Born in Sydney, Meg Mac, whose full name is Meg McInerney, comes from an Irish heritage, with family roots tracing back to Cork and Donegal. Earlier this year, she participated in the Misneach Festival in Sydney, a notable celebration of Irish culture that featured prominent artists like Dermot Kennedy and The Frames.
Meg first garnered attention in 2013 when her track “Known Better” was featured on the Australian national radio station Triple J as part of their Unearthed programme. This recognition led to numerous accolades, including being named Unearthed Artist of the Year and receiving nominations for prestigious awards such as the ARIA Music Awards. Her debut album, “Low Blows,” released in 2017, debuted at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart, marking the beginning of a promising career.
Anticipation Builds for Concerts in Ireland and the UK
As Meg prepares for her Dublin show at the iconic Whelans venue on September 2, 2024, excitement is palpable. “I haven’t been to Dublin for a proper show in ages,” she shared. “Last time I was there, I flew in and out without really experiencing the city. This time, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Whelans holds a special charm for many artists, and Meg has heard rave reviews from friends who have performed there. “Every single person asks me, ‘Where are you playing?’ and when I say Whelans, they go, ‘Oh my God, you’re gonna love it,’” she said, expressing her anticipation for the event.
Meg’s upcoming shows also include performances at The Lexington and Omeara in London on September 3 and September 4, respectively. Despite her nerves about performing in a new city, she feels a strong connection to her Irish roots. “Even though I feel Australian, I’ve always felt a part of my Irish heritage,” she reflected.
A Journey Fueled by Family and Passion
Meg attributes her musical passion to her family environment. Growing up, her parents instilled a love for music, with her mother often playing instruments like the accordion and piano. “Everyone in my family can sing. It’s just normal for us,” she remarked, highlighting the supportive backdrop that nurtured her talent.
Her family is also involved in her musical journey. Her sister Hannah has been a backing singer for over ten years, and her brother recently joined her on stage, marking a special moment in their musical collaboration. “It was really nice being on stage with my brother for the first time,” she recalled.
Meg’s latest album, “It’s My Party,” is set to be released later this year. The title is inspired by a song on the album and reflects her current outlook on life and music. “I feel like I’m at a point where there’s no point in doing things if they aren’t fun,” she explained. “It’s your party; you’ve got to do what you want.”
The album follows her previous work, which has seen significant success. Her 2023 release, “Matter of Time,” achieved her first number one on the ARIA charts and garnered nominations for Best Solo Artist at the ARIA awards.
With the single “He Said No” already available to listeners, Meg continues to explore new creative directions. The song draws inspiration from John Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” told from the perspective of someone left behind. “I love the airport scene,” she noted, expressing her excitement about sharing this new material with audiences.
As Meg Mac prepares for her upcoming shows, she reflects on her journey and the unique experiences that shaped her career. From her early days writing songs for fun to now performing at major festivals, her path has been marked by growth and discovery.
In her words, “I never would have known where this journey would take me. It’s been all about following what feels right.”
With her performances in Dublin and London on the horizon, Meg Mac is ready to share her music and connect with audiences eager to experience her artistry.
