URGENT UPDATE: KNEECAP has just released the highly anticipated music video for their new single “Sayōnara,” featuring popular Derry Girls actress Jamie Lee O’Donnell. The video, which premiered this morning, captures O’Donnell’s struggle with a tedious office job juxtaposed against the vibrant backdrop of wild raves.

In a striking visual narrative, fans will see O’Donnell navigating the mundane office life of the ‘80s while simultaneously cutting loose at lively parties. This surreal blend culminates in a dreamlike sequence where she drives a modified off-roader through Belfast, boldly painted with the phrase “free Mo Chara.”

The music video, directed by Finn Keenan, features a talented cast including Hugh Irvine and Michael Hooley, both of whom have ties to Derry Girls. The buzz around the video is palpable, especially following its live debut at Glastonbury earlier this summer before a staggering crowd of approximately 30,000 fans.

KNEECAP’s DJ Próvaí revealed in the latest Electric Picnic Special Issue of Hot Press that the inspiration for “Sayōnara” came from their desire to evoke a nostalgic ‘90s dance vibe. Collaborating with Paul Hartnoll of Orbital, who contributed to KNEECAP’s film soundtrack, the project was a natural fit.

“After chatting with Paul over coffee and scones, we shared our vision, and he absolutely nailed it. The response from audiences has been electric,” DJ Próvaí stated.

Fans can look forward to more from KNEECAP, as both “Sayōnara” and another track, “The Recap,” are set to release on a 12” vinyl on October 10.

Don’t miss the chance to watch the new music video for “Sayōnara” below, and feel the rush of KNEECAP’s latest creation. This release promises to be a standout moment in their evolving musical journey, blending emotional storytelling with danceable beats that resonate with audiences everywhere.
