Finn Valley AC Athletes Mark English and Conor Kelly Head to Tokyo!

BREAKING: Finn Valley AC athletes Mark English and Conor Kelly have been officially selected to represent Ireland at the highly anticipated World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, set to commence on September 13, 2025. This selection marks a significant milestone for both athletes and the club, as they prepare to compete on an international stage.
Mark English will compete in the 800m event, while Conor Kelly joins the mixed 4x400m relay team. Both athletes have demonstrated exceptional performances throughout 2025, making their inclusion in the squad a proud moment for Finn Valley AC.
Mark is scheduled to fine-tune his skills this Sunday at the Continental Tour Gold meet in Beijing, after recently achieving an impressive Irish record of 1:43.37 in Budapest. Following a bronze medal win at the European Indoor Championships in March, Mark has set the six fastest times of his career outdoors, showcasing his readiness for the upcoming competition.
Conor Kelly, fresh off a gold medal victory at the European U20 Championships in Finland, clocked in at a remarkable 45.83 seconds, setting a new Irish U20 record. This talented athlete is also pursuing an athletics scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin, furthering his commitment to the sport.
The excitement surrounding Finn Valley AC continues as they celebrate the achievements of their athletes. In other news, club member Jon Jo Doherty recently completed the Mid Cheshire 5k in an impressive 14:52, while Sarah Bradley participated in the Charlotte Opener in the United States, representing Queen’s University of Charlotte.
As the cross-country season approaches, training has resumed at Finn Valley AC. The club is set to host primary and secondary schools’ cross-country events on September 16 and 17, expecting around 1,000 children to participate. The annual open Champions Cup Cross Country event is also scheduled for September 21, offering athletes a fantastic opportunity to kick off their season.
