Urgent Appeal in Dublin as Search Intensifies for Missing Boy

URGENT UPDATE: An emotional plea has been made by Fr. Augustine Fokchet, a parish curate at St. Patrick’s Church in Donabate, Dublin, as the search intensifies for a missing child who is now feared dead. Authorities are actively investigating the disappearance of the boy, who would be seven years old if still alive.
The search began earlier this week in open grounds around Donabate following concerns raised by Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, last Friday. Tusla revealed they had previously engaged with the boy’s family five years ago, sparking urgent questions about their follow-up actions.
Fr. Fokchet’s heartfelt appeal urges anyone with relevant information to step forward. “This is an unimaginable situation for any family,” he stated. “We need the community’s help to bring this boy home.”
This incident follows the troubling case of Kyran Durnin, who would be nine years old today if he had not gone missing last year. His case, now under a murder investigation, has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of Tusla’s oversight, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In response to these alarming cases, Children’s Minister Norma Foley announced that Tusla is conducting a “wellbeing check” on all cases, particularly those that were closed during the pandemic. This measure is crucial for ensuring the safety and welfare of vulnerable children in Ireland.
The community is urged to remain vigilant, as the investigation continues and authorities search for answers. The emotional weight of these cases highlights the critical need for awareness and action in protecting children.

This situation underscores the pressing need for systemic improvements in how child welfare cases are handled, ensuring that no child’s safety is overlooked.
