UPDATE: An intense north Atlantic storm, potentially named Storm Amy, is rapidly developing and could impact Ireland this weekend. Forecasters are warning of significant uncertainty surrounding the storm’s trajectory, with the most severe conditions expected to arrive on Sunday night, October 15, 2023.

The latest forecast from Met Éireann indicates that a “mobile Atlantic flow” will dominate, bringing mixed and unsettled weather across the country. Irish weather expert Alan O’Reilly, known for his insights on the @CarlowWeather account, stated, “Still a lot of uncertainty around potential storm Sunday night into Monday.” He noted that while models suggest the storm could remain far out in the Atlantic, changes in forecasts are likely, keeping residents on alert.

Currently, Friday, October 13 is expected to remain dry for most of Ireland, with temperatures reaching highs of 19°C. However, conditions will begin to deteriorate by Saturday, with scattered showers and cloudy skies anticipated. As the weekend progresses, rain and wind are predicted to intensify, particularly on Sunday evening.

Sunday will see widespread rainy spells coupled with potentially strong winds, impacting the Atlantic fringes and leading to a wet and blustery end to the weekend. Temperatures may slightly increase to between 15°C and 18°C despite the adverse weather conditions.

As we move into Monday, heavy showers are expected to sweep across Atlantic counties, leaving many regions damp and dreary. Furthermore, Tuesday is forecast to be a dull day with continuous rain, which could be heavy at times.

Residents should stay tuned to Met Éireann for updates as the situation develops. This storm poses a significant risk for unpredictable weather, and it’s crucial for everyone to prepare accordingly.
