Pinergy Confirms Urgent Electricity Price Hike by 9.83% Next Month

UPDATE: Pinergy has just announced a critical increase in electricity prices for its residential customers, set to take effect on Monday, October 13, 2025. This surge of 9.83% will raise the typical household’s annual cost by approximately €199 (including VAT), impacting budgets just as energy costs remain volatile across Europe.
This price adjustment comes on the heels of a staggering 34% rise in electricity network charges over the past two years. CEO Enda Gunnell stated, “Unfortunately, we will be increasing the costs of electricity to our residential customers next month. This is our first increase after three price decreases made throughout 2023 and into 2024.”
The decision to raise prices is attributed to increased external costs, including charges from electricity system operators and ongoing fluctuations in wholesale energy prices. These adjustments are necessary for maintaining security of supply, addressing network constraints, and investing in the electricity grid. Notably, there will be no change to the Standing Charges or Residential Microgeneration payments, which will remain at 25c per kWh.
Gunnell emphasized that the planned investment in electricity infrastructure is urgent, urging government intervention to help stabilize prices for consumers. “We would call on the exchequer to also play its role in ensuring much-needed price stability and minimizing the financial burden on consumers,” he said.
Pinergy remains committed to supporting customers who may struggle with these new costs. The company encourages those in need of assistance to reach out for help. Customers can leverage smart technologies and apps provided by Pinergy to monitor their daily energy consumption and identify areas to reduce waste.
As the energy crisis continues to unfold, this price hike from Pinergy reflects broader trends affecting households across Ireland. With energy bills on the rise, consumers are urged to stay informed about their energy usage and explore ways to mitigate costs.
