Over 110,000 Rally in London as Police Clash with Protesters
BREAKING: Over 110,000 people have flooded the streets of London today for a massive anti-immigration rally, leading to violent clashes with police. The protest, titled “Unite the Kingdom,” was spearheaded by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who called for supporters to rally for “freedom of speech.”
The situation escalated as police struggled to maintain order during the event, which stretched from Waterloo to Parliament Street. Authorities report that around 1,000 police officers were deployed to separate the rally from a counter-protest organized by anti-racism group Stand Up To Racism, which drew approximately 5,000 participants.
As tensions rose, police intervened multiple times to prevent protesters from breaching cordons, resulting in several assaults on officers. Officers were reportedly kicked and punched, and projectiles including bottles and flares were thrown at them. In total, nine arrests have been made amid the chaos.
Police officials condemned the violence as “unacceptable,” emphasizing the need for safety during such events. The confrontation highlights the deep divisions within society over immigration and national identity, with one side waving banners proclaiming “Refugees welcome,” while the other displayed Union Jack flags.
Speeches from Robinson, former actor Lawrence Fox, and social media commentator Katie Hopkins fueled the crowd’s fervor at the rally’s main stage in Whitehall. The atmosphere was charged, reflecting a growing sentiment among segments of the public regarding immigration policies.
This developing story is critical as it underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding immigration in the UK. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as clashes continue to unfold.
