GAA Club Raises €90,000 for Brave Boy Fighting Aggressive Cancer

URGENT UPDATE: A GAA club in Galway has launched a heartfelt campaign, raising over €90,000 to support two-year-old Darragh Linnane, who is bravely battling a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. The funds are being collected through a GoFundMe page, with a target of €160,000 to cover Darragh’s extensive medical treatment.
Darragh was diagnosed with cancer on February 11, 2025, which turned his family’s world upside down overnight. His parents, Niamh and Darragh, have described the journey as one of the hardest challenges any parent can face, but they cling to hope for their son’s recovery. The support from their community has been overwhelming, with donations pouring in as Gort GAA Club rallies behind the Linnane family.
A statement on the GoFundMe page reads, “Gort GAA Club are showing our support for little Darragh Linnane. Both the Linnane and Killilea Families have been deeply embedded in Gort GAA Club for many years.” The club has announced plans for additional fundraising events in the coming weeks, urging the community to come together to help Darragh.
Darragh’s journey has been marked by numerous hospital visits and treatments, including chemotherapy and surgery at Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Following his initial surgery, doctors revealed that he has a more aggressive cancer, prompting a shift to an intensive treatment plan that includes radiotherapy completed at St Luke’s Hospital and ongoing chemotherapy in Crumlin.
Despite the significant challenges, Darragh has shown remarkable resilience. His parents share that their son loves spending time with his three siblings—Cara (8), Cathal (6), and Éabha (4)—and enjoys activities such as driving his grandfather’s digger and baking with family. His infectious laughter and strong spirit have inspired those around him.
“We are continually grateful for all of the prayers and support we have received from our family, friends, neighbours, and community,” Darragh’s parents expressed, highlighting the emotional toll of having a seriously ill child.
As the community rallies behind Darragh, the urgency of his situation cannot be overstated. With ongoing treatment and the possibility of future medical costs, every contribution counts.
