A woman in her 80s has died following a collision between an SUV and a truck in County Roscommon on the evening of March 12, 2024. The incident occurred on the N5 at Scramogue, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The driver of the SUV, a woman in her 70s, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment. The road was closed to traffic on Tuesday evening and is expected to remain closed until Wednesday as forensic collision investigators conduct a thorough examination of the site.

Gardai are appealing for assistance from the public, specifically requesting anyone with camera footage from the area between 16:45 and 17:15 on Tuesday to share it with detectives.

Fatal Incidents Across Northern Ireland

In a related matter, the Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that a man who died in a separate collision was identified as 21-year-old Ryan Cunningham. He was the driver of a car involved in a crash on Ballydugan Road in Downpatrick, County Down, on March 11, 2024.

Additionally, a woman in her 70s, identified as Joyce Crooks, aged 78, died following a head-on collision in Dungannon, County Tyrone. This incident resulted in injuries to five other individuals, who were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
