UPDATE: A tragic swimming accident in Dublin has claimed the life of Paul McSweeney, the brother of former RTE presenter Flo McSweeney. Emergency services responded urgently to the incident reported around 12:30 PM on September 14. Despite rapid medical intervention, Paul was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at St Vincent’s Hospital.

Paul, described as a “warm and gentle” man, was loved by many. He was a dedicated member of the Glenageary Lawn Tennis Club, where tributes poured in from fellow members mourning the loss of their dear friend. The club expressed their sorrow, stating, “Paul’s final match point in life came far too early.” His passion for tennis and competitive spirit made him a cherished presence among club members.

Paul was more than just a tennis enthusiast; he was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his wife, Gemma, and four children: Eleanor, Richard, Hannah, and Grace. Fellow club members highlighted his commitment to family and community, noting his interests in sustainability and travel.

The funeral arrangements for Paul have been confirmed. He will repose at Quinn’s of Glasthule on September 19 from 4 PM to 6 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day at 10 AM at the National Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire, followed by cremation at Mount Jerome Crematorium.

Friends and colleagues shared heartfelt condolences, with one business partner reflecting on their twelve years of collaboration, stating, “He will be sorely missed as a colleague and friend.” Another expressed sympathy to Gemma and the children, emphasizing Paul’s congenial nature and warm spirit.
