URGENT UPDATE: A 26-year-old cyclist tragically lost her life after being struck by a truck in Cork city center on September 18, 2025. The victim, identified as Manani Oskau from Japan, had only moved to Cork a few months prior on a work visa, working two jobs in the area.

The devastating accident occurred around 6:15 PM at the junction of Albert Road and Albert Street. Witnesses report that Oskau was at a pedestrian crossing when the collision happened. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Her grieving parents are expected to travel from their home in Tokyo to bring their daughter’s remains back home, highlighting the profound loss felt by her family and community.

Gardaí are currently investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson stated:

“Gardai are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision involving a truck and a bicycle which occurred at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road at approximately 6:15 PM.”

They are particularly looking for any road users with camera footage from the area between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM.

This incident marks a grim day for Cork, as it was the second fatal collision reported within just a few hours. Earlier, a 40-year-old man, Stuart Daly, also died after losing control of a dumper truck nearby. Gardaí are similarly urging witnesses to come forward regarding this earlier incident.

Both tragedies have sparked significant concern among local residents, emphasizing the urgent need for road safety measures. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of two lives in such a short span of time.

For anyone with information regarding the accidents, Gardaí encourage contact with Anglesea Street Garda Station at 021 452 2000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station.
