Victoria Mary Clarke Mourns Sister’s Passing, Emotional Tribute Shared

URGENT UPDATE: Victoria Mary Clarke is heartbroken after her sister, Vanessa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2023. The widow of Pogues icon Shane MacGowan took to social media to share her grief and heartfelt memories of Vanessa, who was only in her 50s.
In a poignant tribute posted on X, Victoria described Vanessa as her “best friend since we were babies” and expressed her devastation at the loss. “My beautiful sister Vanessa died last night,” she wrote, adding that Vanessa was “the embodiment of kindness and compassion.”
Vanessa’s funeral arrangements have been confirmed. She will repose at Rom Massey & Sons Funeral Home in Dublin on September 23 from 6 PM until 8 PM, with a celebration of her life scheduled for September 24 at Mount Jerome, Harold’s Cross, Dublin at 4 PM, before being buried in Inchigeelagh, Co. Cork.
Victoria shared touching memories, stating, “She loved Shane like a sister, and he adored her. I hope and pray that he was waiting for her when she crossed over.” This emotional statement reflects the deep bond shared among the three, as both Vanessa and Shane had a unique relationship that enriched each other’s lives.
The grief-stricken Clarke continued, “I’m devastated without her and she will leave an enormous void in our lives.” She also thanked the staff at The Mater Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital for their care during Vanessa’s “fearless battle” with cancer.
A death notice on RIP.ie detailed that Vanessa passed away surrounded by her closest family members. It described her as “a formidable and inspirational woman of immense resilience, empathy, and warmth.” The notice highlighted the profound impact she had on her family and friends, stating that her legacy of love and kindness will be dearly missed.
Close friends and family members, including singer Imelda May, have expressed their condolences, emphasizing the vibrant spirit Vanessa brought into their lives. May remarked, “She was so vivacious, beaming with love. She’ll be missed by many.”
Victoria’s heartfelt reflections illustrate the emotional weight of this loss. In her latest post, she shared another cherished memory with Vanessa and Shane, asserting, “May they both be happy together in heaven and waiting for me when I get there.”
