Urgent: Design Team for 200 Extra Beds at UHG to Be Appointed Soon

UPDATE: A design team is set to be appointed before the end of 2023 to oversee the creation of 200 extra beds at University Hospital Galway (UHG). This urgent initiative aims to address the growing demand for hospital services in the region.
The project will involve the construction of two new blocks, each housing over 150 beds. However, it is important to note that a portion of the existing beds will be temporarily lost during the construction phase. This development is part of UHG’s ambitious Master Plan, which includes plans for a new A&E Department, Maternity Unit, Paediatric Unit, and Cancer Centre.
John Connolly, Galway West Fianna Fáil TD, expressed optimism about the swift progression of these plans. “We are hopeful that the design team will move quickly to address the urgent need for additional bed capacity at UHG,” Connolly stated in a recent social media post.
This development comes as hospitals across the country face increasing pressures due to rising patient numbers. With the appointment of a design team imminent, stakeholders are eager to see how quickly these plans can be put into action, ultimately improving healthcare access for the community.
As work progresses, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the project and its impact on local healthcare services. The community’s support will be vital in navigating the challenges posed during the construction period.
For further updates on the UHG expansion and other projects, follow local news outlets and official announcements. The urgency of these developments highlights the ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare facilities in Galway.
