Kalvin Phillips will miss Manchester City’s upcoming Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield as he prepares to welcome his second child. The midfielder, who last played for City in December 2023, has been away from the pitch due to a combination of injuries and loan spells with other clubs.

Phillips had anticipated making a rare appearance with the team, but he opted to travel to London for the birth of his child. City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the news, stating, “Today he is in London because he will be a father for the second time.” The 27-year-old player is currently recovering from an Achilles operation and is expected to continue training with the squad.

Manchester City has faced a challenging start to the season, and Guardiola has indicated that he plans to adjust his lineup, allowing regular starters some much-needed rest. Unfortunately, Phillips will not be part of that rotation as he prioritizes family commitments. Guardiola added, “He’s coming back, training with us, and we will see what happens. He’s coming from surgery, so now he has to make training sessions and maybe some minutes in some games.”

Phillips, who announced the birth of his first child in December 2023, had a brief and difficult stint with West Ham after leaving City shortly after his first child’s birth. During his time with the Hammers, he made only ten appearances before moving to Ipswich Town on loan, where he managed to secure more playing time. Last season, he played 19 matches for Ipswich, but the club faced relegation.

I think he will be fine for the weekend against Burnley. I hope so.”
