URGENT UPDATE: A brand new musical titled ‘Hometown Girls’ is set to take the stage in Letterkenny this week, celebrating Donegal’s historic All-Ireland victories in 1992 and 2012. Written by local playwright Billy MacInnes, the show will be performed at An Grianan Theatre on September 25 and 26, 2023, and promises to be a heartwarming experience for all attendees.

Director Maria MacInnes expressed her excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to be taking Hometown Girls from Glenties to An Grianan and sharing it with as many people in Donegal as we can.” This production marks a significant milestone for the creators, as it showcases original country and folk songs that tell the story of three childhood friends—Grainne, Meath, and Niamh—across two decades of life, love, and heartbreak in Donegal.

Adding to the excitement, the cast features Michael Gallagher, a member of the 1992 All-Ireland team, making his stage debut. This unique blend of local talent and sports history sets ‘Hometown Girls’ apart, with rave reviews from its initial run in Glenties earlier this year.

The show not only pays tribute to Donegal’s sporting legacy but also captures the joy felt throughout the community during the All-Ireland triumphs. “We have assembled some terrific talent, young and old, from Glenties, Ardara, and surrounding areas to perform in the show,” said Billy MacInnes. “This is not a ‘jukebox’ musical; it’s a completely original production.”

Tickets for ‘Hometown Girls’ are priced at €17 and €12 for concessions, with a special offer available for the September 25 performance using the discount code hometown08 to reduce prices to €12 and €8 (concessions).

This musical is not just an entertainment event; it is a celebration of community spirit and cultural pride. For further information, including promotional videos, visit the Hometown Girls Facebook page.
