Residents of Galway are encouraged to provide feedback on the recent trial of a new Buskers Code of Conduct, which aimed to enhance the performance environment for street musicians. This initiative, developed by the Galway Buskers Community, outlines essential guidelines concerning performance times, sound levels, pedestrian access, and crowd management.

The trial took place over the summer months, allowing the council to assess the code’s effectiveness and gather community insights. In an effort to involve various stakeholders, Galway City Council has launched a public feedback survey. This survey invites responses from the general public, buskers, and local businesses.

Public Consultation and Next Steps

The feedback survey is accessible online at GalwayCity.ie and will remain open until October 7, 2023. Following the conclusion of the consultation period, a comprehensive report will be prepared for the Strategic Policy Committee on Tourism. This report will analyze the feedback received and may recommend amendments to the existing Galway City Busking Byelaws.

The Code of Conduct was crafted to acknowledge the needs and responsibilities of buskers while promoting a harmonious relationship with the public. It addresses vital aspects of street performance, ensuring that both artists and the community can enjoy a balanced and respectful environment.

The survey is divided into specific sections tailored for different groups, allowing for a nuanced understanding of opinions from various stakeholders. This structured approach aims to ensure that all voices, whether they be from performers or local businesses, are heard and considered in future policy decisions.

As Galway continues to cultivate its vibrant street performance culture, the input of the community will play a crucial role in shaping the future of busking in the city. The council’s initiative reflects a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports artistic expression while balancing the needs of residents and visitors alike.
