Loraine Barry Steps Down as Head Judge of Dancing with the Stars Ireland

Loraine Barry has announced her departure from her role as head judge on Dancing with the Stars Ireland after eight successful seasons. The former professional dancer revealed this decision to her followers on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the support she received since the show’s inception in 2017.
In her heartfelt statement, Barry reflected on her time with the show, stating, “After eight wonderful seasons, I have decided it’s the right time for me to stand down from my role as Head Judge.” She emphasized the joy and friendships she experienced throughout the years, describing the program as “a wonderful family show that I have loved being a part of.”
Barry acknowledged the challenges she faced recently, particularly the passing of her ex-husband, Andrew Sinkinson, and her mother in January. She thanked the show’s loyal viewers of “all ages,” especially for their support during this difficult time.
“I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to RTÉ and ShinAwil for the opportunity and would like to wish the team and new cast every success ahead,” she added. Barry concluded her message with a note of affection, stating, “I shall miss you all.”
Tributes Pour In for Loraine Barry
Following the announcement, tributes from friends and colleagues highlighted Barry’s impact on one of Ireland’s most popular television programs. Fellow judge Arthur Gourounlian celebrated her contributions, calling her the “Queen of the Ballroom” and humorously lamenting the loss of her presence. He shared, “Who’s going to feed me sweets, pass me the fan when I’m melting and sweating under those hot lights, and deliver the glam week after week?”
Presenter Doireann Garrihy praised Barry as “a legend and a lady,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside her. “You will be so missed in the ballroom,” she commented.
Dancer Laura Fox, who participated in the show in 2024, also expressed her admiration: “You’re so fab Loraine, such a tough year for you but you were amazing on our screens even with everything you were going through. Mind yourself.”
James Patrice, known for presenting backstage content for the RTÉ show, described Barry as “a legend both on and off the camera.” He thanked her for her willingness to engage with the social media team, saying, “Thank you for always being such a joy to chat to.”
Celebrity chef Donal Skehan summed up the sentiments of many in the industry, stating, “Ah what a fabulous run Loraine. Ever glamorous and brilliant.”
