Carndonagh Woman Fined €900, Banned for Two Years for Driving Without License or Insurance

BREAKING: A Carndonagh woman has just been fined a total of €900 and banned from driving for two years after being caught driving without insurance or a license. Saskia McGeoghegan, aged 25, did not appear in Carndonagh District Court, but the case proceeded in her absence following confirmation of her notification.
The charges stem from an incident on the morning of January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:20 AM, when Garda Noelle Magee observed a blue 2013 Nissan Micra on Station Road. Upon checking the vehicle through the Garda’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) device, it was revealed that there was no insurance registered for the car.
When approached, McGeoghegan identified herself and admitted to not having any insurance. When asked for her driving license, she confessed that she did not possess one. She acknowledged her offenses by signing the officer’s notebook.
Judge Brendan O’Reilly took note of the evidence presented, including that McGeoghegan has no previous convictions. He imposed a two-year driving disqualification alongside a €500 fine for driving without insurance, a €200 fine for driving without a license, and an additional €200 in fines for failing to produce the required documents.
McGeoghegan has six months to pay the total fine of €900, with a €300 cash recognisance set should she decide to appeal the ruling.
This case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety and compliance with driving regulations. Authorities are urging drivers to ensure they are properly licensed and insured to avoid severe penalties and ensure public safety.
