Explosive Device, Cocaine Seized in Major Limerick Raid

BREAKING: A significant police operation at the Childers Road halting site in Limerick has led to the seizure of an improvised explosive device (IED), large amounts of cocaine, crack cocaine, and €5,500 in cash. This operation unfolded on Tuesday as part of a focused investigation into organized crime in the area.
Authorities from the Limerick Crime Unit, in collaboration with multiple agencies and specialist units, executed a planned raid at the halting site, targeting criminal activities linked to a notorious group operating within Limerick. During the operation, a thorough search was conducted across several residential properties and adjoining lands.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to manage and safely dispose of the explosive device discovered during the raid. In addition to the explosive find, police seized various items of evidential value, including a mobile phone believed to be connected to ongoing criminal operations.
A male in his 20s was arrested during the operation in connection with a previous incident involving the unlawful discharge of a firearm that occurred on September 3 at the same location. He was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, and has since been released pending a file submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This operation comes amid increasing concerns over drug-related crime and safety in the community. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to dismantle organized criminal networks in the region.
