SkyTeam Appoints Diego Larrea VP of Digital Operations

Global airline alliance SkyTeam has appointed Diego Larrea as vice president of its digital operations and strategy. This strategic move aims to accelerate digital transformation within the alliance, strengthen technological collaboration, and provide enhanced, customer-centric solutions.
In his new role, Larrea will oversee SkyTeam’s central Digital & IT organization. He is expected to work closely with member airlines to advance innovation and digital strategies that improve connectivity, operational efficiency, and the overall customer journey in global aviation. Larrea succeeds Laura Abraham, who contributed significantly to SkyTeam’s digital initiatives.
Background and Experience
Larrea joins SkyTeam from Delta Air Lines, where he spent more than 16 years implementing key initiatives in commercial and distribution technology, digital innovation, and customer experience. His extensive experience spans multiple countries, including Japan, Mexico, and the United States, providing him with a global perspective on airline operations and customer service.
Patrick Roux, CEO of SkyTeam, expressed confidence in Larrea’s leadership, stating, “With Diego Larrea aboard, we will strengthen our digital capabilities in ways that matter most to our members and travelers.” Roux highlighted the significance of this appointment as SkyTeam celebrates its 25th anniversary and embarks on a new chapter.
Vision for the Future
In his first remarks after the appointment, Larrea expressed his enthusiasm for shaping the alliance’s digital future. “I am honoured to join SkyTeam as we shape the alliance’s digital future,” he said. He aims to establish a platform that enables member airlines to accelerate transformation by sharing best practices and responsibly exploring emerging technologies.
Larrea emphasized the importance of reducing inefficiencies, enhancing customer experiences, and maximizing investment impact. He envisions a future where SkyTeam is recognized for eliminating legacy constraints and embracing innovation, ultimately crafting digital journeys that delight customers.
SkyTeam’s membership includes major airlines such as Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, and Virgin Atlantic, among others. The alliance continues to seek ways to enhance collaboration and improve service offerings for its passengers in an increasingly digital world.
