PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe Dive into Annual Dickie Dip for Charity

Radio Nova broadcasters PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe are set to participate in the sixth annual Dickie Dip on Saturday, November 8, 2023, in Skerries, Ireland. This unique event invites men to take part in a charitable skinny dip, with all proceeds directed towards men’s cancer care and the Mater Hospital Foundation.
The duo aims to attract at least 500 participants for this year’s event, emphasizing that more participants would enhance the experience. Gallagher expressed pride in the event’s accomplishments, stating, “You do feel a sense of accomplishment about it,” while highlighting the significant funds raised for a vital cause. Last year, the Dickie Dip generated an impressive €186,000, contributing to a total of €600,000 raised since the event’s inception.
Celebrating Accomplishments and Encouraging Conversations
Both Gallagher and McCabe recognize the event’s potential to foster discussions around men’s health. Gallagher noted the diverse participation, saying, “There’s people who are survivors, there’s people who are in solidarity and then there’s lads who just want to get their willies out.” He emphasized that the discomfort of a brief dip in cold water pales in comparison to the event’s broader message: encouraging men to seek medical advice and discuss health concerns.
McCabe echoed this sentiment, stating that while participating in the event may push individuals out of their comfort zones, it serves a greater purpose. He remarked, “When you put it into that context, it makes it worthwhile.”
The pair highlighted the tangible impact of the funds raised, which have helped acquire essential medical equipment capable of saving lives through early detection and surgical interventions.
How to Participate and Join the Fun
Participants can register for the Dickie Dip at www.materfoundation.ie/dickiedip. Gallagher and McCabe are enthusiastic about the event, assuring potential participants that it promises both fun and camaraderie. “You’re gonna have a great day,” Gallagher said, encouraging men from all walks of life to join the cause.
Reflecting on their previous experiences with charity events, Gallagher noted, “We’ve all done charity events where they were just a pain in the arse. It’s over quick, it’s good fun, there’s great solidarity there.”
As the Dickie Dip approaches, the excitement builds for what promises to be both a spirited and impactful day for men’s health.
