Limerick Festival of Science Secures €50,000 in Government Funding

The Limerick Festival of Science will receive €50,000 in government funding to support its initiatives during Science Week 2025. This annual event is scheduled to take place from November 7 to November 17, 2025, and aims to enhance public engagement with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through curiosity-driven activities and discussions.
The funding announcement was made by James Lawless TD, the Minister for Further and Higher Education, during a launch event for this year’s Science Week. A total of €847,820 has been allocated nationwide for 36 projects, marking the 30th anniversary of Science Week in Ireland. Minister Lawless emphasized the significance of this initiative in connecting communities with scientific knowledge and innovation.
Encouraging Participation in Science Week
Minister Lawless stated, “Science shapes every minute of our daily lives, from protecting the environment to driving healthcare and technological innovation.” He highlighted this year’s theme, “Then. Today. Tomorrow.”, which encourages individuals to reflect on scientific advancements and consider future possibilities. He urged the public to participate in the various events being organized across the country.
The director of research for society at Research Ireland, Dr. Ruth Freeman, also welcomed the launch of Science Week 2025. She remarked, “For 30 years, Science Week has been sparking curiosity and bringing people together through science.” Dr. Freeman noted that the anniversary theme provides a platform to celebrate past achievements and envision future developments for individuals, communities, and the planet.
A Nationwide Celebration of Science
The diverse range of events planned for Science Week reflects the creativity and dedication of local organizers and volunteers. Dr. Freeman extended her gratitude to those involved, stating, “The success and appeal of Science Week is due primarily to the creativity and tireless work of local organisers and volunteers.”
As the festival approaches, excitement builds among participants and organizers alike. The Limerick Festival of Science is set to play a vital role in fostering a deeper understanding of the impact of STEM in everyday life, making it a key event in the annual calendar for science enthusiasts across Ireland.
