UPDATE: A new music initiative, dubbed AMP (Average Musicians Playing), is set to launch in Letterkenny on the first Monday of every month, starting at 7:00 PM. This laid-back jam session invites local musicians who may not consider themselves professionals to come together and enjoy music in a friendly, no-pressure environment.

Organizers are calling on musicians who feel their skills fall short of professional standards, stating, “Tired of rocking out alone in your bedroom? Think you’re too average for a band but too good to quit? AMP is for you.” This inclusive gathering aims to create a supportive atmosphere for those who love to play but may lack the confidence to perform in traditional band settings.

Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and a modest fee of €10 for venue hire. The event, which is open to ages 21+, will take place at a location in Letterkenny that is yet to be confirmed. Players should come equipped with their musical essentials, and a willingness to embrace their “I-can-kinda-play-this” attitude.

The jam session is not for complete beginners or virtuosos. Instead, it is tailored for musicians who can follow tabs or chord sheets and keep time. Instruments welcome include electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboards, vocals, and even small percussion instruments. This is a chance for musicians to let loose and enjoy playing together without the pressure of performance.

The format for the evening includes a quick hello followed by a shared tune list. Musicians will be able to lock in a song for one verse and chorus before diving into a full run.
