Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group Rages Over Recess Base Delays

URGENT UPDATE: The Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group is expressing outrage today over significant delays in the construction of a critical ambulance base in Recess, Ireland. Despite the Health Service Executive (HSE) announcing plans for the facility back in 2021, the project has faced prolonged setbacks, now pushing completion to late 2026.
The proposed facility will upgrade the existing single-storey health center in Recess, adding two ambulance bays and two parking spaces for vehicles. Initially slated to begin construction in the third quarter of this year, the timeline has now shifted dramatically, leaving community advocates frustrated and concerned.
PJ Leavy, a representative from the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group, voiced the group’s deep disappointment during an interview on Galway Talks, stating that the base is now unlikely to be operational until 2027. “We are extremely disappointed with this delay. The community has fought for this facility for over two decades,” he emphasized, highlighting the urgent need for reliable emergency services in the area.
The ongoing delays pose a serious risk to residents who rely on timely medical response, underscoring the critical nature of this project. Community members, who have campaigned tirelessly for the ambulance base, are now left questioning the commitment of local authorities to address their urgent health care needs.
As the construction timeline continues to slip, the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group is urging officials to take immediate action to expedite the process. The group stresses that every moment counts when it comes to emergency medical services.
With the construction set to last approximately six months once it begins, stakeholders in the community are calling for transparency and accountability from the HSE. The delays have ignited passions and frustrations among locals, who feel their health and safety are being overlooked.
Residents are encouraged to stay engaged with the ongoing developments and to support the efforts of the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group as they push for progress on this essential facility.
The situation is developing, and further updates are expected as community leaders continue to advocate for the urgent construction of the ambulance base.
