Limerick Science Festival Secures €50,000 for 2025 Events

The Limerick Festival of Science has been allocated €50,000 as part of a broader government initiative to support projects during Science Week 2025. This annual event, scheduled from November 7 to November 17, 2025, aims to ignite curiosity and promote dialogue between the public and experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Minister for Further and Higher Education, James Lawless TD, announced a total funding package of €847,820 for this year’s Science Week, which marks its 30th anniversary. At the announcement event, Minister Lawless emphasized the significance of connecting people with science through engaging activities.
“Science Week is now a key event across Ireland, engaging communities and inspiring generations,” he stated. “I am delighted to announce my department’s support for this year’s programme, which includes funding for 36 projects. Science shapes every minute of our daily lives, from protecting the environment to driving healthcare and technological innovation.”
Exploring Society Through Science
This year’s theme, “Then. Today. Tomorrow.,” encourages participants to reflect on historical advancements while considering future possibilities. Minister Lawless invited everyone to participate in the numerous events scheduled throughout the country during Science Week.
Dr. Ruth Freeman, director of research for society at Research Ireland, also welcomed the launch of Science Week 2025. “For 30 years, Science Week has been sparking curiosity and bringing people together through science,” she noted. “Our anniversary theme offers a unique opportunity to celebrate past achievements and contemplate future innovations that might shape our lives and communities.”
Dr. Freeman expressed appreciation for the wide array of events planned across the nation. The success of Science Week, she explained, is largely due to the creativity and dedication of local organizers and volunteers who make the event a vibrant celebration.
As the countdown to Science Week 2025 begins, anticipation builds for the opportunities it will provide for public engagement with science, fostering a deeper understanding of its impact on everyday life.
