Families to Receive Increased Child Support and Payments in Budget 2026

Thousands of families in Ireland will benefit from increased social welfare payments following major changes announced in the Budget 2026. Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe detailed these measures during a press conference at Leinster House on October 10, 2023. The announcements include an increase in the Child Support Payment and enhancements to the Working Family Payment, aimed at providing additional financial support to households.
The Child Support Payment will see a significant rise, with families set to receive an additional €58 or €78, depending on their circumstances. This adjustment comes in response to inflationary pressures and aims to alleviate the financial burden on families raising children. Additionally, the Working Family Payment will extend its support to thousands more families, further enhancing the financial security of low-income households.
The Budget 2026 was presented with an emphasis on addressing the increasing cost of living, particularly as the country navigates economic challenges. Minister Donohoe highlighted the importance of these measures in providing immediate relief to families, particularly those who may be struggling to make ends meet.
In the context of the increasing Child Benefit, families will receive an enhanced payment of €285 per child, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting families. These changes are expected to positively impact the lives of numerous households across Ireland, providing vital support to parents and guardians.
The announcements come at a crucial time for many families facing rising costs. By expanding the Working Family Payment and increasing the Child Support Payment, the government aims to ensure that financial assistance reaches those who need it most. The adjustments will apply to families with children under the age of 18, as well as those with children aged 18 to 22 in full-time education.
Minister Donohoe’s announcement has been met with positive responses from various advocacy groups, who emphasize the need for continued support for families. Organizations dedicated to child welfare have long called for enhancements to child support payments, and these changes mark a significant step in addressing those concerns.
Overall, the Budget 2026 outlines a comprehensive plan to bolster financial support for families, reflecting the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by many in today’s economic climate. With these adjustments, thousands of families can look forward to increased financial assistance, helping them to navigate the complexities of raising children in an evolving economic landscape.
