Galway Hospice Supports 1,344 Patients in Urgent Care Growth

UPDATE: Galway Hospice has just reported a significant increase in patient support, caring for 1,344 patients throughout 2024. This marks a 6% rise compared to the previous year, underscoring the growing demand for specialized palliative care services in the Western region of Ireland.
The charity, located on Dublin Road in Renmore, has released its 2024 impact report, detailing its extensive range of services, including inpatient care, community palliative care, and day care services. Notably, 73% of those who died from malignant diagnoses in Galway last year received care from Galway Hospice, highlighting its critical role in end-of-life support.
In a landmark development, Galway Hospice transitioned to Section 38 status in its agreement with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health. This transition is expected to provide enhanced clarity and assurance regarding state funding, ensuring the continuation of compassionate palliative care services across the region.
The report emphasizes the urgent need for such services, reflecting a broader trend in healthcare where demand for quality end-of-life care is on the rise. Galway Hospice is committed to meeting this challenge, providing essential support to patients and their families in difficult times.
As this situation develops, the community is encouraged to engage with Galway Hospice, as it continues to adapt and expand its services to meet the needs of an increasing patient population. This growth not only showcases the organization’s dedication but also highlights the importance of community support in sustaining vital healthcare services.
