Luke Combs to Headline Slane Castle Concert, Fans React to Ticket Prices
Fans of country music are expressing their excitement and frustration following the announcement that Luke Combs, an eight-time Grammy-nominated artist, will perform at Slane Castle in Ireland as part of his new tour, My Kinda Saturday Night. The concert, scheduled for next year, was confirmed on October 9, 2023, and will feature support from the Irish band The Script.
Known for chart-topping hits such as “Beautiful Crazy,” “Forever After All,” and his rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” Combs has a history of sold-out performances across Ireland. His upcoming show at Slane Castle marks a significant milestone as it is the first time a country music artist has headlined the venue since its concerts began in 1981. The castle has hosted legendary acts including U2, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Bruce Springsteen.
While many fans are thrilled about the opportunity to see Combs, there is considerable discontent regarding ticket prices. Tickets for the concert start at a substantial €121.25, excluding service charges. This pricing has prompted a wave of reactions on social media.
One fan remarked on Twitter, “Prices for Luke Combs at #Slane will START at €121. You could buy a few pairs of Wrangler jeans for that.” Another expressed their dismay, stating, “Over €130 a ticket to go see Luke Combs in Slane!!! Don’t get me wrong, I like him and his music, but Christ that’s a huge price. The world’s gone mad!” Additionally, a third fan commented on Instagram, “€122 for a ticket?? I’m glad I don’t know much about this guy…. crikey.”
The high ticket prices reflect the ongoing trend in the music industry, where demand for live performances often drives costs to record levels. Combs’ rising popularity, underscored by his achievements—including being the first country artist to have two songs surpass one billion streams on Spotify—contributes to the concert’s premium pricing.
As anticipation builds for the concert, ticket buyers are left weighing the excitement of seeing a major artist at a historic venue against the financial implications of attending. As fans prepare for this highly anticipated event, it remains to be seen how many will ultimately commit to purchasing tickets at the current prices.
