Kilkenny Venue Urgently Addresses Refunds Amid Budget Fallout

URGENT UPDATE: The Seantí, a beloved independent music venue in Kilmacow, South Kilkenny, has issued a critical statement regarding ticket refunds following the recent Budget, which they claim has “done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING” to support their operations. This announcement comes as they navigate the challenges of running on extremely tight margins.
The venue took to social media to clarify its position on ticket sales and refunds, emphasizing the significant financial pressures they face. “We currently do not receive funding from The Arts Council, County Council, etc. We do it all ourselves,” The Seantí stated, highlighting the uphill battle for small independent venues.
The venue explained that when patrons purchase tickets, they commit to supporting not just the artists, but the venue itself. “When we book an artist, we undertake a commitment to pay those people for their time and effort. That’s only fair. It’s THEIR livelihood,” they stressed, underlining the interconnectedness of artists and venues.
According to the venue, the refund policy is clearly stated on their ticket sales page: “Under normal circumstances, we do NOT provide ticket refunds.” They noted that accommodating multiple refund requests would jeopardize their financial stability, which is crucial for their survival in a challenging economic landscape.
“So PLEASE do us a favour… if you can’t afford to be at the loss of the cost of a ticket should YOU be unable to attend for any reason… don’t buy that ticket in the first place,” The Seantí urged, appealing directly to the community for understanding and support.
The venue’s team expressed gratitude to their patrons for their ongoing support, stating, “Many thanks to all for your continued support as we endeavour to bring top-class entertainment to the South-East.” They reaffirmed their commitment to providing enjoyable experiences, even as they face these financial hurdles.
This urgent announcement from The Seantí reflects broader concerns within the music and entertainment industry, where many venues are grappling with the fallout from economic challenges exacerbated by recent policy decisions. As the situation develops, the venue urges community members to consider the implications of their ticket purchases and the vital role they play in supporting local culture.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and the ongoing challenges faced by independent venues across the region.
