Driver Arrested for Speeding at 165 km/h on M7, ‘Baked’ on Drugs

UPDATE: A driver has been arrested for speeding at an alarming 165 km/h on the M7 motorway, with authorities confirming they were under the influence of drugs. The incident occurred yesterday, and the driver was caught by the Laois Roads Policing Unit after a routine check revealed serious violations.
The driver, described as “well and truly ‘baked,’” was also found to be an unaccompanied learner with no insurance and a live arrest warrant. The dramatic stop unfolded on the busy M7, highlighting the dangers of drug driving.
In a lighthearted yet impactful social media post, gardaí referenced the Great British Bake Off, stating: “On Your Marks, Get Set, BRAKE!” They noted that the “aroma of Cannabis” was so strong it could have given even the show’s judges a case of the munchies.
The roadside drug test returned positive for both Cannabis and Opioids, confirming the driver’s impaired state. Gardaí emphasized that the driver faced multiple charges, including operating a vehicle without insurance and driving unaccompanied as a learner.
The driver was arrested, charged, and appeared before a judge in Tullamore this morning. The authorities seized the vehicle, adding that it was “whisked away” on a tow truck following the arrest.
Gardaí concluded their post with a serious note, reminding the public of the risks associated with driving under the influence, which remains a significant factor in road accidents and fatalities across Ireland. They continue to urge all motorists to drive responsibly, emphasizing that drug driving is a major public safety concern.
This amusing yet alarming incident serves as a critical reminder of the consequences of impaired driving, designed to catch attention while highlighting a serious issue. The post has since gone viral, drawing widespread engagement and discussion on social media platforms, reminding everyone of the importance of road safety.
As authorities continue to monitor and enforce road safety measures, this incident underscores the urgent need for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel.
