Danny Rohl Returns as Top Contender for Rangers Head Coach Position
Danny Rohl has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new head coach of Rangers, according to Sky Sports News. The former Sheffield Wednesday manager had previously withdrawn from consideration but is now back in the running following the collapse of negotiations with another candidate, Kevin Muscat, on Sunday night.
Rohl, aged 36, had expressed strong interest in taking the reins at Ibrox, even participating in training sessions last week. After realizing that other candidates were ahead in the selection process, he stepped back from the race. However, with Muscat no longer in contention, Rohl’s prospects have improved significantly.
Ongoing Evaluations at Ibrox
Despite Rohl’s renewed status, sources at Ibrox indicate that the club continues to evaluate multiple candidates for the head coach position. An appointment is anticipated within the next few days, especially with Rangers scheduled to face Brann in the Europa League on March 7, 2024. Rangers have struggled in this season’s competition, remaining winless thus far.
Rohl’s previous experience includes a challenging stint at Sheffield Wednesday, where he achieved a 12th-placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship during his sole full season in charge, before parting ways with the club in July 2023. His earlier roles as an assistant manager at prestigious clubs such as RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, as well as with the Germany national team, have equipped him with valuable insights and skills.
Future Prospects
Rohl had previously been considered for the Rangers position during the summer and left a positive impression in discussions with the club’s leadership. As the team looks to revitalize their performance, the appointment of a new coach could play a crucial role in turning their fortunes around.
With the situation developing rapidly, Rangers supporters and sports analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on any announcements in the coming days. The club’s management remains focused on finding the right fit to lead them through the remainder of the season and beyond. Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
